Description

The MacKay Skyway Trail starts by climbing a hill. As the trail climbs up to a ridge and passes some large boulders the trees become more sparse. The trail travels through the knee high rhododendrons and there are openings due to the rocky ground. Once up on the ridge you will start to get views of the highway and city. The trail runs along the ridge parallel to the highway with many views.

The trail eventually drops down through a spruce and mixed forest. The trail crosses a boardwalk over a small stream and then comes to the junction with the Tall Grass Trail. Turn left and then left again on the Old Carriage Road to return to where you started.

Directions

For directions to the park check out the Rockwood Park Trail.

Use the southern entrance to the park and continue past the Lily Lake Pavillion on Lake Drive South. Near the end of the lake keep left onto Fisher Lake Drive. Climb the hill and drive for 800 metres until the road turns sharply to the left. There is parking along the road just past the turn. Park here.

Enter the Trans Canada Trail (turn right instead of left at the sharp turn in the road) and continue past the Mountain Bike Skills Park. You will soon come to a junction. At the junction you can either go left or right to access the trail. If you go right follow the Old Carriage Road for 300 metres and you will find the MacKay Skyway Trail on the left. If you go left walk for 600 metres and you will find the Tall Grass Trail on the right. Follow the Tall Grass Trail for 150 metres and you will find the MacKay Skyway Trail on the right.
